Overview
The Department of Anesthesia & Critical Care at the University of Chicago offers 3, one-year ACGME accredited critical care fellowship positions. We offer a high acuity, diverse clinical experience while emphasizing fellow education with daily protected didactic time. Fellows are encouraged to develop their skills as a team leader and educator throughout the whole of their training year.
Clinical Rotations
Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in patient care, supervise residents and teach medical students in a multitude of intensive care environments.
- Cardiovascular & thoracic ICU (3 months) – Fellows have the opportunity to care for perioperative patients many of whom require mechanical circulatory support devices including IABP, Impella, LVAD, RVAD, ECMO and others. In the CT ICU, fellows will care for patients undergoing heart, lung and multiorgan transplantation. UCM has performed more triple organ (heart/liver/kidney) transplants than any other center in the U.S.
- Surgical/Trauma ICU (3 months) – UCM has one of the busiest level one trauma centers and one of the highest rates of penetrating injury in the country. Fellows work in a multidisciplinary team with surgical and anesthesia intensivists caring for patients with traumatic injuries and following major surgeries including liver transplant, kidney transplant, pancreatic and major oncologic surgery.
- Medical ICU
- Neurologic/Neurosurgical ICU
